I am praying for a stronger, peaceful day for Jim. Yesterday was another hard one...yet better than the day before. His nose bleed heavy all day as they were giving him platelets and plasma to help the clotting. When he came back from dialysis the ENT packed his nose again. Jim was not a happy camper as the process is very painful, his description was that a nail was going through his head. He tried to pull it out and then he needed to have his arms restrained to protect him from taking any of his tubes out. Jim is getting frustrated as any of us would be and I am the brunt of his anger...well some of the nurses are getting it pretty hard as well. I have such awe at the staff and their compassion after doing this day after day. I try to look at this as Jim getting his fight back and showing how stubborn he can be. That is exactly the fight in him he needs to conquer these latest issues.
I just got off the phone with his nurse and he has made some improvements over night. There is no plan for any transfusions today, just an Xray this afternoon. The biliruben number came down again slightly, which shows there are signs of stabilization and possible improvement with liver function. He wanted scrambled eggs this morning and that again shows his stamina. He has not eaten in over a week. They did move him to a room closer to the nurses station during the night, so they could keep a better eye on him. The other evening when he managed to get out of bed, it took 4 nurses to get him back in....doesn't that sound like the Jim we all know and love...full of determination! Yesterday when he almost pulled his packing out of his nose, I had to yell at him and told Jim he was acting just like our son Jack who turns 12 tomorrow. I wear many hats and the roller coaster of emotions is incredible....lots of tears, sadness, joy and hope. Every little positive is like a celebration. I continue to turn to the Lord for help and strength to get through each day.
My prayers for today are peace, comfort and calm for Jim.
I wish you all a blessed day and continue to thank you for your prayers.
