Friday was a very rough day for Jim. After 8 units of fresh frozen plasma and some platelets, he was able to have the liver biopsy. The schedule kept changing as more blood products were given and finally at 2:30 he was taken down for the procedure. He was very uncomfortable all day and his lower back was bothering him from laying so much. He had his scheduled dialysis on Thursday and another round Friday morning to remove as much fluid as possible before the biopsy. The procedure went well with no complications....thank the Lord. Results will be ready on Monday.
The ct scan of the brain came back normal showing no bleeding in the head...another positive. Jim has had some increased trouble breathing. The results from the broncoscopy earlier in the week did show a bacterial pneumonia in the lungs. He is back on oxygen and being monitored very closely. There were discussions of a possible move to intensive care, but for now they will keep him on the transplant floor. Jim continues to have a lot of confusion, which the doctor said seemed a little worse this morning. He has not eaten in 3 days and the poor man is extremely week.
I was able to meet with Dr. Mehta yesterday and we went over things in detail. The biopsy results will clarify what is causing the liver issues. It could very well be the host vs. graft disease or an infection such as hepatitis. They are already treating him for most of this as a precaution, but we need to pinpoint , so we can attack it more aggressively.
These next few days are going to be very hard for Jim. Please pray for his comfort and strength. Pray the doctors find what they need to attack the problem. Pray for God to continue to wrap his arms around our family and keep us safe.
As I am typing I look down and Jim's wedding band is on my finger. He had to remove it before the biopsy, so I decided to wear it. He never takes his ring off... except to golf. I am finding peace in having it with me and think of all the wonderful things Jim has done for others. He is such a good, kind, generous, loving person...a gentle soul...a great husband and father. I am lucky.
God Bless

Thank you for keeping us posted how Jim is doing (otherwise you would have too many calls!). Please tell Jim that he (and you all!) are in our daily prayers and thoughts. Of course, please call us if there is "anything" that we can help with.
Love,
the Ebbole's
